The gifted singer-songwriter becomes the first African music artist to achieve this feat.

Weeks after Tems became the first African female artist to hit the No. 1 spot in the United States Apple Music chart, she unlocks a new milestone. Nigerian singer and songwriter, Temilade Openiyi popularly known as Tems, has achieved a historical feat in the history of African music as she becomes the first African artist to debut at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

Weeks ago, American rapper, Future rolled out his 9th studio album ‘I Never Liked You‘ and its featured guests were Kanye West, Drake, Young Thug, Gunna, Kodak Black, EST Gee and Nigeria’s very own Tems. Off the LP, the 7th track ‘Wait For U‘ has now enjoyed rave reviews from fans and critics, it is also the most successful record on the album so far as it makes its debut at Billboard Hot 100 No. 1, making it Future’s first number one song, Tems first and Drake’s tenth.

It took the Grammy-nominated songstress a collaboration with Future and Drake to achieve this feat. Although Wizkid came close, being the first African artist to peak at the No. 1 spot on Billboard Hot 100, as a featured artist on Drake’s ‘One Dance‘ alongside Kyla, it never debuted at No. 1. Initially, ‘One Dance‘ debuted at the No. 3 spot and it finally peaked at No. 1 weeks after.

Tems has now appeared on Future’s and Drake’s albums in recent times and she totally understood her assignment. Up next, we’ll be expecting a new project from her, possibly her debut album. It is without a doubt, one of the most anticipated African projects in 2022 and it will see her extend her winning streak.
