London is preparing for the return of Black On The Square. This vibrant festival celebrates Black culture in Trafalgar Square. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, announced the event will be held on Saturday, September 7th.
Award-winning actor and rapper Bashy will headline the festival. The lineup also includes Cultur FM, Kofi Stone, Krar Collective, Shingai, Phoebs, and Karen Nyame. The event features live performances, art workshops, and face painting for children.
Black On The Square is a free event that highlights the diversity of Black culture. It promotes community and unity during divisive times. Sadiq Khan praised the festival for its message of unity and cultural celebration.
Visitors can enjoy food from Black-owned businesses representing Ghana, Jamaica, Nigeria, and more. Artisan stalls will offer unique goods, including accessories, home décor, jewelry, and inclusive books. Support for Black-led businesses will be available through Grow London Local and Foundervine.
Kobi Prempeh, the Creative Programmer, stressed the theme of collectivism. The festival aims to inspire and showcase Black talent and creativity. Shingai, a featured performer, is excited to celebrate London’s Black and Brown communities through music.
