In honour of International Women’s Day on 8th March 2025, Generation Black TV will be broadcasting Her Story: Our Voices, a special television programme that features an incredible line-up of inspiring women from diverse backgrounds. These women are leaders in their fields, pushing boundaries, advocating for change, and elevating the voices of those often unheard. Her Story: Our Voices is a celebration of women’s strength, resilience, and empowerment, presented with an authenticity that resonates deeply across different communities.

A Powerful Line-up of Trailblazers

The show brings together an exceptional group of women who have paved their own paths and shattered barriers in their respective industries.

  • Dame Kelly Holmes, military veteran, double Olympic champion, and a passionate advocate for mental health, women’s empowerment, and the LGBTQ+ community, is a force to be reckoned with. In her autobiography Unique (published in November 2023), she shares her journey of overcoming adversity, both on and off the track.

  • Lavina Mehta MBE, an award-winning personal trainer, wellness coach, and women’s health campaigner, is known for her dedication to improving the health and well-being of women. As the bestselling author of The Feel Good Fix: Boost Energy, Improve Sleep and Move Through Menopause and Beyond, she offers invaluable insights into maintaining physical and mental health throughout life’s transitions.

  • Rosie Nixon, bestselling author, consultant, and life coach, made her mark as the Editor-in-Chief of HELLO! magazine. She now dedicates her time to supporting midlife women through her curated luxury day retreats, Rosie’s Reinvention Retreats, which provide the tools for personal transformation.

  • Blair Imani, an American education activist, creator, and author of Read This to Get Smarter, is also the host of the viral series Smarter in Seconds. Blair uses her platform to advocate for racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and women’s empowerment, making her an essential voice for change.

  • Montell Douglas, a double Olympian, British Gladiator, and Strictly Come Dancing contestant (2024), is a TV personality and women’s health advocate. Montell brings her athletic prowess and determination to advocate for the physical and mental well-being of women.

  • Nadia Nagamootoo, business psychologist, bestselling author of Beyond Discomfort: Why Inclusive Leadership Is So Hard (and What You Can Do About It), and founder of Avenir, is committed to helping businesses create positive impact through inclusion and belonging.

A Unique Production: Empowering Young Black Creators

In an innovative move, Her Story: Our Voices is uniquely filmed by young Black girls from Young Creators UK as part of a positive action initiative aimed at providing them with opportunities to develop media production skills. This collaboration underscores the programme’s commitment to nurturing future voices and fostering inclusivity within the media industry. By offering real-world experiences, the initiative empowers young Black girls to take ownership of their stories and contribute to the narratives that shape our world.

Navigating the Complexities of Women’s Equity

Throughout the programme, the featured speakers share their personal stories of navigating their industries as women with diverse identities, including Black, South Asian, White, Muslim, British, American, queer, and hetero. They candidly discuss the barriers, challenges, and expectations they have faced, highlighting the intersectionality of their experiences.

The women explore the current state of women’s equity, offering their insights on the political changes and news stories that are deeply concerning, revealing significant steps backward in the fight for gender equality. While addressing these challenges, the programme also emphasizes the importance of hope and the belief that positive change is still possible, no matter the obstacles in the way.

The featured speakers call on viewers to take action, urging them to contribute to the collective efforts needed to drive progress. The programme encourages audiences to embody the UN Women International Women’s Day 2025 theme: For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality.
