The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) took place on Sunday, the 28th of August at the Prudential Centre in New Jersey and different artists went home with awards in various categories. The award was hosted by Jack Harlow, LL Cool J and Nicki Minaj who was honoured with the Video Vanguard Award during the show.
The stage was graced with performances from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Marshmello, Khalid, Panic! at the Disco, Kane Brown who made history as the first country singer to ever perform in the VMAs, a super trippy collaboration between Eminem and Snoop Dogg who gave a multiverse performance of their song From the D 2 the LBC amongst others.
Kendrick Lamar, Lil Nas X, and Jack Harlow are tied for the most nominations with seven each. In the categories announced by MTV, Harlow had seven bids including Video of the Year for ‘Industry Baby,’ his collaboration with Lil Nas X but the VMAs announced a social category (voted on through MTV’s Instagram Stories) where Harlow earned an additional bid for his chart-topping single ‘First Class.’
Doja Cat and Harry Styles follow with six nominations, while Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and Ed Sheeran each have five. Doja Cat was also nominated in the social category for her song ‘Vegas’ from the movie ‘Elvis’ and her Post Malone collaboration ‘I Like You.’
