Live from GenB TV Music’s BrickLane collaboration with Sparks, where cultural commentator Amardeep Sura, caught up with  UK rapper and MOBO 2025 winner, Scorcher who spoke candidly about the importance of community, the role of change, and his plans to release a steady stream of new music. Known for keeping things authentic, Scorcher isn’t here to reinvent himself—he’s just continuing the path he’s always walked.

“This Is Just the Way I’ve Been Brought Up”

When Amardeep asked Scorcher why community events and spaces like corner shops still matter, his response was unfiltered and honest.

“I can’t really tell you why it’s important to me,” he said. “That’s just the way I’ve been brought up. It’s not like a thing I consciously push—this is just what I’ve always done, in different ways, forever.”

Community isn’t a trend or campaign for Scorcher—it’s second nature.

Corner Shops, Culture, and Change

As gentrification reshapes neighbourhoods, iconic local spaces like corner shops are disappearing. Amardeep asked if it’s important to preserve these community staples.

“Yeah, possibly,” Scorcher replied. “But we’ve also got to be open to change and evolving. Still, there’s always a place for things like this in our communities—it’s what we know, it’s who we are.”

It’s a view that balances respect for cultural heritage with a realistic approach to progress.

A Flood of Music on the Way

The interview shifted to what’s coming next in Scorcher’s world, and he didn’t hold back.

“I’ve got so much music,” he revealed. “Now I’m getting things in order and I’m ready to start dropping. I want to release at least two songs a month until the end of the year.”

Amardeep asked whether visuals are part of the rollout.

“Yeah, visuals too. Sometimes if there’s no visual, it doesn’t happen. I could’ve dropped just audio already, but I want to give people the full thing.”

One track already in rotation is “Eight Plus One”, which Amardeep admitted to having “on repeat.”

“Thank you,” Scorcher responded, clearly appreciative.

Family Over Flash

As the interview wrapped up, Amardeep asked about the rest of Scorcher’s day. True to form, the rapper was keeping things humble.

“I’m gonna shoot off to see my mum and my sister—it’s my sister’s birthday,” he shared. “My mum just grabbed a bagel from Brick Lane. Just cheese. But if you’re on Brick Lane, it’s a must.”

In just a few minutes of conversation, Scorcher reminded us that consistency, family, and staying true to yourself still matter. With a vault full of music and his finger on the pulse of the culture, he’s not just building momentum—he’s building legacy.
