Following three successful past collaborations with Adidas Originals for the Spring Summer 2022 collection, British-Jamaican menswear brand Wales Bonner releases new fresh items inspired by Burkina Faso’s music and 1970s West Africa.
Grace Particia is a British fashion designer of Jamaican roots whose work explores sexual orientation, identity and race. Throughout her collections since the designer has forged designs on different African cultures and its diaspora, connecting past trends with contemporary movements amongst fashion, music and art. After her first collaboration with Adidas in 2020 was well-received, the two brands took it upon themselves with each release to introduce different textures and perspectives into African and Caribbean styles.
This new collection consists of two classic Adidas samba silhouettes which is known to be a fan-favourite. The shoes don a satin fabric with contrast stitching and are presented in a cream and ecru colourway.
Introducing its customers to another Adidas shoe silhouette of the past, the country sneakers come in a black and mesa colourway. For apparel, Wales and Adidas offer a sun yellow and brown Adidas tracksuit with flared disco pants, a striped long sleeve, a pink T-shirt, a red light sports jacket, brown chino pants, and an ensemble of knitted vest and shorts with long knitted socks which come in a mesa and scarlet colourway.
With the use of vibrant colours and essentials to the time in reference, the collaboration reimagines African eras of unity and a strong sense of individuality. Through the lens of photographer Jalan and Jibril Durimel, the campaign is shot in an analog-like feel, bringing to life photo archives of Burkina Faso. The concept behind each capture advocates for connection and joyful moments.
All pieces are available starting June 4th on Adidas’ official website.
