After releasing last summer’s viral hit track ‘Polongo’, which amassed over five million global streams, afropop sensation OLAKIRA has been on a brief hiatus while recording his highly anticipated debut album that’s set for release this October – but with fans and audiences clamouring for some new music from the Nigerian star singer, songwriter and producer, Olakira is letting everyone know that he is back outside this summer with an exciting double-a side single release titled ‘ILEKE’ and ‘KISSES’ to mark his sensational return, as he prepares to head back on the road again for a mini African and European tour, with confirmed tour stops in Ethiopia, Senegal, Kenya, and the Netherlands.
Produced by Simba Tagz (Burna Boy, Mr Eazi) and Olakira himself respectively, ‘Ileke’ and ‘Kisses’ provide an immersive listening experience for fans and critics alike, which combine Olakira’s motif captivating melodies, irresistible musical soundscapes, and his unmatched artistic prowess to great effects. Frontrunner ‘Ileke’ is an upbeat feel-good song that sees Olakira waxing lyrical in both English and Yoruba languages about his feelings for his leading lady, over an outstanding afrobeats and amapiano fusion sound bed. The second a-side ‘Kisses’ reveals Olakira’s versatility as a musician and producer, as he showcases his penchant for melodies that tug at listeners’ heartstrings.
Both ‘Ileke’ and ‘Kisses’ boast infectious pop elements, lush amapiano-leaning log drums, enthralling songwriting, and glorious afrobeats sensibilities that band together to deliver songs that are sure to be strong fan-favourites, amongst Olakira’s already undeniable discography, by the end of the summer. ABOUT OLAKIRA
Olakira is a fast-rising Nigerian singer, songwriter, musician, and producer that burst onto the global music landscape in 2020 with the massive track ‘In My Maserati’, and has not looked back since. With two critically acclaimed EPs, countless hit singles, and over half a billion streams under his belt, Olakira is one of the most exciting musicians coming out of Nigeria in recent times. The multifaceted musician taught himself how to play several musical instruments as a teenager, and got his big break in Nigerian music by producing and writing some of the country’s biggest hits, including co-producing Dotman’s ‘My Woman’ and ‘Akube’, before landing a record deal with U&I Music to release his own music.
In 2021, he was nominated for ‘Rookie of the Year’ at The Headies, Nigeria’s equivalent to the Grammy Awards, while also being nominated for ‘Artist of the Year’ and ‘Producer of the Year’ at the All Africa Music Awards.
