Afrobeats artists are carrying their emblem all over and the world is catching up. 2022 has been a remarkable year for the genre with songs like Rema’s ‘Calm Down,’ Oxlade’s ‘Ku Lo Sa‘ and Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last‘ earning certifications in strategic places of the world, including the United States, United Kingdom, France, India, South Africa, and more.
Awards shows are not left out as well. This year, Afrobeats artists have earned nominations at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, American Music Awards, and BET Soul Train Awards among many others. The American Music Awards (AMAs) has also become one of the first American awards to create a category for the metastasizing Afrobeats genre.
We cannot talk about Afrobeats without placing Burna Boy in the mix, he has been one of the biggest transporters of the genre. He is having a good time in 2022 as well. He is one of the most nominated Nigerian artists this year so far and has been nominated across awards like the BET Hip-Hop Awards, AMAs, BET Soul Train Awards, BreakTudo Awards and more.
