Future released Love You Better as the lead single of his chart-topping album, I Never Liked You back in April and now he is back with a cinematic video to accompany it.
The Atlanta rapper’s latest video stars Shannon Thornton, who currently appears in the Starz series P-Valley. In the Nathan Scherrer-executively produced video, Future watches in grief as his romantic interest, played by the actress, is happy in love with another person.
The video features some not-so-subtle references to his long-ended relationship with his ex, Ciara including a massive billboard featuring a nondescript football player that is a clear stand-in for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, Ciara’s current husband.
Love You Better begins with a visual of the rapper floating with Ciara’s prayer playing in the background. “This is the prayer I forgive you for the hurt you cannot heal.” The video moves on to Future kneeling in front of Shannon Thorton and another scene where he’s wearing faded clown makeup and a pinstripe blazer holding a bouquet of flowers before panning to a billboard advertising the song’s title. Another scene features Future’s in-video ex sharing her secrets with a bevvy of women fascinated by her breakthrough.
The video cuts between a medley of a couple building their life together, from walking in front of their mansion home to taking photos with their young daughter. Future, meanwhile, spies on the woman from a distance as he takes the chorus: “You tellin’ me you falling out of love with me, hope you can find someone to love you better than I did.”
The clip reflects clown-like appearances and dark make up the video tells the story of love slipping through his finger as he watches his once lover enjoy her life with her new boyfriend.
Following the release of I Never Liked You which landed solidly at the top of the Billboard 2oo and kept him booked and busy, he’s released a video for Holy Ghost with Little Havana and a collaboration with Drake and Tems on Wait For U. He also made a surprise appearance with Travis Scott at the Rolling Loud Miami Festival days ago.
