In the spirit of Black History Month, trailblazing NFL agent and attorney, Nicole Lynn has become the first black woman to represent an NFL quarterback in the Super Bowl

NFL attorney and agent Nicole Lynn represents Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback, Jalen Hurts. Hurts and his team triumphed against the San Francisco 49ers alongside Kansas City Chiefs who beat the Cincinnati Bengals in a 23-20 victory in the AFC Championship game. The two wins mean that both teams would be headed to Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona.

Lynn’s road to becoming an NFL agent and the first black woman to represent an NFL quarterback didn’t happen overnight. She explained to Sports Illustrated how she was able to seal the position by sending a direct message to Jalen Hurts. “Hey, have you picked an agent? If not, I’d love to link,” Lynn wrote on Instagram to Hurts.

Nicole Lynn’s tenacity and her remarkable work experience convinced Hurts, who had not yet employed a sports agent, that she would be the ideal candidate to fill that position.

As Hurts prepared to take up the position, she was confronted by individuals who questioned women’s success in the overwhelmingly male-dominated field. But none of that wavered her decisions.

Lynn also talked about the synergy between her and Jalen Hurts. She went to law school at the University of Oklahoma. Years before Hurts began his collegiate career at Oklahoma, her spouse also played football at the school.

Speaking about his reasoning for choosing Nicole Lynn to represent him and his fascination with her as his agent, the Philadelphia quarterback said: “I wanted to hear her out. I know the agent world in the NFL, and all sports is very male-dominated. But Nicole was really on top of her stuff. She was prepared. She knew what she was talking about. She was hungry. And she was determined. And I feel that determination like that never rests. Once you come across such a determined individual, that just hits me a little different.”

According to Hurts, he met Nicole Lynn and immediately recognized the same drive and willpower he had, being someone who has always had to pull away from doubts throughout his career. “That turns me up. It lights a fire in me. It does something to me, because I know I’ll prove you wrong. But I saw that same fire in Nicole. She said, ‘I’m a woman. People are going to overlook me. People are going to doubt me. They’re not going to give me the due respect. But I’m overcoming it, just like you do. And that’s where we really hit it off. We had the same vision,” he said.

Nicole Lynn is not just the first Black woman to represent a quarterback in the Super Bowl but also the first female agent to work for the NFL agency PlayersRep, which was eventually bought by Lil Wayne’s Young Money APAA Sports Agency in 2015. Besides that, she’s the “first Black woman in league history to represent a top-three draft pick” with her client Quinnen Williams as of 2019.
