Nigerian singer-songwriter, Simisola popularly known as Simi, has set a new record as she becomes the first Nigerian female artist to amass 100 million streams on Boomplay.

When you talk about female representation in Africa’s music scene, Simi has been a leading vibe. Churned out and been involved in multiple hit records, she is a force to reckon with.

Propelled by projects like the Chemistry (2016) assisted by Falz, Simisola (2017), Omo Charlie Champagne Vol. 1 (2019, Restless II (2020), and her latest album, To Be Honest (TBH), Simi finally joins the Boomplay golden club, a growing list of artists with over 100 million streams on the platform which includes, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Omah Lay, Fireboy DML, and Joeboy from Nigeria as well as Diamond Platinumz and Rayvanny from Tanzania.

Speaking about the impressive feat, Tosin Sorinola, the Director of Artiste & Media Relations at Boomplay said, “Boomplay is dedicated to amplifying voices and ensuring inclusion and representation in music. As an organization, we will continue to recognize and celebrate the strides made by women globally.”

Boomplay is currently one of the fastest-growing music community, lifestyle and entertainment apps with a focus on music that aims to build the largest and most sustainable digital music platform in pan-Africa and African diaspora markets. Boomplay’s music service helps artists and content providers monetize their content effectively while allowing music lovers to download music, curate personal playlists, follow, engage and interact with users. Boomplay primarily focuses on African local and urban music content and was first launched in Nigeria in 2015.
