It seems like the fans of Beyonce and lovers of Mary J Blige are ready to eat good in the 2022 BET Soul Train Awards as both female artists top the nomination list of this year’s edition of the annual music award show with 7 nominations each.

Beyoncé received nominations for Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and twice for Best Collaboration, and The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award.

Mary J. Blige, on the other hand, has earned nominations for the Certified Soul Award, Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award, Best Collaboration, and Video of the Year.

Following closely behind them is American R&B singer Ari Lennox, who received six nods for Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award, Best Dance Performance, and Video of the Year. Lizzo and Chris Brown are tied at 5 nods each, with Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy, Steve Lacy, and Muni Long backing them with 4 categories each.

Other artists that made it to the nomination list are PJ Morton, Tems, Bruno Mars, Ckay, Coco Jones, Dixson, Fireboy DML, Diana Ross, Erica Campbell, CeCe Winans, and Anderson.Paak amongst others.

Comedian Deon Cole has been announced as the official host of this year’s award show. Speaking on his excitement about hosting the 2022 Soul Train Awards Deon Cole said: “Hosting the ‘Soul Train Awards is a dream come true. I grew up watching Soul Train and ‘til this day, I’ve never met a Soul Train Line I didn’t bless with my skilled two-step,” Cole said. “It is truly a privilege to be given this opportunity to celebrate Don Cornelius’ legacy, all of the amazing Black talents that illuminated our screens on the iconic TV show, and my favourite genres of music: Soul, R&B, and Hip Hop.”

Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming, and Strategy applauded the comedian for his new feat as the host of the 2022 Soul Train Awards. “Deon Cole is known for delivering razor-sharp humour and commentary across his acclaimed standup specials and series. Get ready to see him unleash his comedic talents like never before on the Soul Train Awards stage.” “Deon is BET family, and we are proud to have him make his hosting debut exclusively on BET, ” he added.
