Nigerian singer-songwriter, Tems is currently having a time of her life, her exploits in 2022 have been acknowledged by many including greats like Drake, Future, and of course, Rihanna. She recently scored No. 1 and top 50 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with Wait For U led by Future and Drake, and her solo single Free Mind respectively. Her awards and nominations cut across several prestigious names like Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, BET, NAACP, and now, the Golden Globe Awards.

Tems has been nominated at the Golden Globe Awards for the first time ever. She was nominated alongside Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Göransson for Best Original Song. Thanks to her songwriting contribution to the lead single off Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack album, ‘Lift Me Up‘ by Rihanna; which served as her return to the music scene after a long hiatus, and a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, the star of the first Black Panther movie.

The nominations were announced by Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva of the new NBC comedy series Lopez vs. Lopez, and Helen Hoehne, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Five nominees were presented for each of the 27 award categories.

Tems has also reacted to the nomination. Coming across the announcement via Marvel’s official Twitter handle with the tweet: “Congratulations to Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler and Ludwig Göransson for their Golden Globe Nomination for Best Original Song! #WakandaForever #GoldenGlobes,” Tems quoted and tweeted: “My God!! this one is too much,” in excitement. Tems joins the likes of Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Alexandre Desplat, M.M. Keeravani, and more as this year’s nominees.

The 80th edition of the annual Golden Globe Awards will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, on NBC and Peacock.
