Vaughan Gething, 50 years of age,  who is a Zambian born, secured victory in a closely contested Welsh Labour leadership election, poised to become Wales’ inaugural black first minister with 51.7% of the vote. His win over Jeremy Miles marks a historic moment, drawing congratulations from UK Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Next week, he will officially ascend to the position of First Minister, succeeding incumbent leader Mark Drakeford. Drakeford, who has held the role since 2018, disclosed his intentions to step down late last year.

However, amidst the celebration, concerns have arisen over donations from a contentious waste company, sparking calls for scrutiny and reflection on campaign financing practices.
