Afrobeats is gradually taking over the world and it is no fluke. With songs charting in Africa, Europe, India, Australia and the Americas as attestations, it isn’t that difficult to project what is to happen in the coming years.
Afrobeats is gradually cracking the Middle East and Wizkid’s performance at one of the world’s biggest gaming events, the Gamers8 eSports Concert in Saudi Arabia is a testament. This will be the first time Wizkid is performing in the country.
Grammy-winning singer and Starboy Entertainment frontier, Wizkid becomes the first African artist to headline the Gamers8 eSports Concert held at the NXT LVL Arena in Riyadh Boulevard, Saudi Arabia. The Afrobeats superstar had the whole venue on lock performing some of his greatest hits, including the highly acclaimed ‘Ojuelegba‘ single, released back in 2014, ‘Soco‘ which features some of his colleagues, Ceeza Milli, Terri, and Spotless, the Drake-assisted RIAA gold certified ‘Come Closer,‘ as well as the Grammy-nominated and RIAA 2x platinum certified ‘Essence‘ which features the songstress, Tems.
On becoming the first African artist to headline the eSporting event, the news was met with good reviews from fans. We had a couple of tweets to that acclaim including a thread from a sports journalist who goes by the Twitter handle: @_davyben. He said, ” Wizkid with unarguably the best performance of the night at the biggest ever Esports concert on the planet. He was the first-ever African to headline a show at the NXT LVL at the Riyahd Boulevard last night. Last night also confirmed Starboy has a huge fan base in Saudi Arabia.”
Without further ado, take a look at a sneak peak of the performance below.
